Mizzou Softball Picks Up Win at UCLA Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-- - The Missouri Tigers defeated Boston College 6-1 for its first victory at the UCLA Tournament. Earlier in the day, MU fell to the number one ranked team in the nation, UCLA, 5-0.

Missouri was held to one hit and no runs for the second straight day against UCLA. Heather Kunkel's single in the first inning was the only hit the Tigers could get off Bruin pitcher Keira Goerl.

The Bruins scored two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the second inning. They added a run in the fifth for their final run of he game.

Samantha Fleeman started for Mizzou, striking out three and walking two in 5 1/3 innings of work.

The Tigers fell behind to Boston College after the eagles scored in the top of the second inning. However MU responded scoring a run in the bottom of the second. After Daisy Mettlach walked and advanced to second on a Kristen Burke groundout, Morgan LeCluyse doubled to centerfield to drive in Mettlach and tie the score at one.

Missouri took the lead by scoring four runs in the fifth inning. LeCluyse opened the inning with her second double of the game and was later driven in by Sara Vassmer. Vassmer then scored when Joanne Loethen doubled to centerfield. Loethen took third base on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Kunkel. Rachael McGinnis capped off the scoring in the inning with a homerun over the left field fence, her second of the season.

Ingrid Werner won her second game of the season, pitching a complete game three hitter.

Mizzou is now 9-9 on the season and will face Boston College again on Sunday at 10 a.m. (noon CST). The winner of that game will face UCLA at 1 p.m. (3 p.m. CST).
