LOS ANGELES, Calif.-- - The Mizzou softball team fell to No. 1 UCLA 2-0 in the championship game of the UCLA Tournament. Earlier in the day, MU defeated Boston College 2-0.
Erin Kalka, starting her second game of the day, was in control early, holding the Bruins scoreless through three innings and at one time retiring 10 straight UCLA batters. UCLA got on the board in the fourth inning an inning, an inning that saw two Tiger errors and a wild pitch allowing the runs to score.
Kalka was strong against the Bruins, giving up only two hits and striking out ten in her second complete game of the day.
Against Boston College, the Tigers and Eagles were scoreless through four and a half innings, before Mizzou got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Jeni Schellert, Sara Vassmer and Joanne Loethen all singled, Heather Kunkel doubled to drive in both Schellert and Vassmer.
Kunkel was 2-for-4 for Mizzou with the two RBI. Kalka pitched a complete game four hitter for the victory. She struck out six batters, while walking none.
Mizzou are off unitl March 12 when it will open its home portion of the schedule with a doubleheader against Pittsburg State at University.
