LOS ANGELES, Calif.-- - The Mizzou softball team fell to No. 1 UCLA 8-0 in five innings after dropping the opening game of the day 3-0 to Boston College. The Tigers drop to 8-8 on the year.
The Tigers opened the day by falling to Boston College. The game's only runs came in the top of the fourth inning when BC's Jennifer Asbury connected on a three run homerun. All three runs were unearned, following an error earlier in the inning.
Samantha Fleeman gave up no earned runs in a complete game performance. Six Tigers recorded hits against the Eagles, but MU left 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded twice.
In game two, Missouri faced the nation's top ranked team, UCLA. The Bruins got on the board first, by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Bruins added a fourth run in the bottom of the second inning.
UCLA began to aim for the fences in the third inning as Clair Sua connected for a solo homerun. Then in the fifth, Tairia Mims and Sua combined for back-to-back homeruns.
Erin Kalka struck out six in the game for MU. The Tigers had only one hit off UCLA, that was by Kendra Power
Mizzou will continue play in the UCLA Tournament on Saturday. Once again will take on UCLA and Boston College, beginning with the Eagles at 9 a.m. (11a.m.CST) followed by the Bruins at 2 p.m. (4 p.m. (CST).
