The University of Missouri track and field looks to build on an impressive showing last weekend in Nebraska this weekend at the ISU Track & Field Classic. Last week at the adidas Classic in Nebraska two Tigers automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and many Tigers set personal bests.
Tiger senior Christian Cantwell and sophomore Amanda Bales were named Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week last week, both qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Cantwell's shot put throw of 68 feet, 5 inches last week is the farthest throw in the NCAA this year and is the second-farthest throw in the world this year. Cantwell also set a school record with the throw. Bales' mile time of 4:41.45 leads the Big 12 and is the third-fastest time in school history. Bales received her first Big 12 Athlete of the Week award for this year and Cantwell received the accolade for the second consecutive week. Tiger teammates Russ Bell, Janae Strickland, and Jennifer Bennett set provisional qualifying marks last week.
The ISU Track and Field Classic is a two-day meet starting Friday afternoon and running through Saturday night.
