Columbia, Mo.-Combating one of the nation's top ranked opponents, the Mizzou soccer team put forth a heroic challenge and sustained a steady winning attitude. Despite a hard fought effort, with Missouri out shooting Nebraska 23-to-20, the Tigers fell in a 4-0 contest.
The scoring combination of Christine Latham and Kori Saunders proved to be Missouri's nemesis throughout the game. Latham scored two goals and Saunders scored one goal and dished out one assist in the match. The Cornhuskers managed to put three past the Tigers in the first period before capping off their scoring assault with a fourth in the second period.
Missouri goalkeeper Megan Duncan played all 90 minutes allowing four goals and making five saves. Helping the keeper, the Missouri defensive line came up with several key blocks to thwart Nebraska. The defensive effort wasn't enough however as the Tigers missed countless opportunities to create good defense with good offense. Missy Peabody led Mizzou with seven shot attempts, but was only able to force two Nebraska saves in the game. Likewise, of Missouri's 23 shot attempts, only six saves were forced on Nebraska keeper Erin Miller.
An extremely physical game resulting in 28 combined fouls, two yellow cards and a red carded Nebraska player brings Missouri to a 5-3-1 season mark with a 0-1-0 showing in conference play. The Tigers next face Big 12 opponent Colorado in Columbia on Sun., Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
