CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri recorded a 5-2 win over Missouri on Tuesday in non-conference play at Capaha Field. The Tigers stranded 11 baserunners in the contest and fall to 23-25 overall.
The Indians, leaders of the Ohio Valley Conference with a 26-15 record, scored one run in the third inning and then added two more runs after getting four hits in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Brent Lacy led off with a walk and went to third on a double to left field by Jayce Tingler. The hit extended Tingler's career-best hit streak to 24 games. After Cody Ehlers walked to load the bases, Lee Laskowski walked to score Lacy. Tingler added a bunt single in the seventh for his 23rd multi-hit game this season. The Indians used three consecutive singles to score two more runs in the seventh inning and take a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers got a leadoff walk from Ehlers in the eighth inning to get things started. Ehlers eventually scored on an error to make it 5-2.
Missouri struck out 14 Southeast Missouri batters in the contest. Tingler and Hoover each had two hits to lead the Tigers.
MU returns to Big 12 Conference play against Kansas State this weekend. Game one of the three-game series will be Friday at 6:30 p.m.
