COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State, the nation's 25th-ranked team by ESPN/Baseball Weekly, used three runs in the third inning and four more tallies in the fourth inning to pull ahead of Missouri and pick up an 8-5 win over the Tigers Friday night in Big 12 Conference play at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Oklahoma State scored its three runs in the third inning by taking advantage of four walks and an error to go with one hit. Missouri answered with a pair of runs in its half. Brent Lacy led off the inning with a single, stole second and moved to third base on a wild pitch. Jayce Tingler walked and W.T. Hoover drove in Lacy with a sacrifice fly to center. Cody Ehlers then doubled to right field to score Tingler.
The Cowboys plated four runs on four hits in the fourth inning, two coming on a single by Jeff Salazar.
Missouri picked up two runs in the sixth inning, all coming with two outs. Mick Weiss and Jody Roughton had back-to-back one-out singles before Brent Lacy walked to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Ryan Rallo was hit by a pitch to score Weiss while Tingler walked to score Roughton. Oklahoma State added a run in the eighth inning to take an 8-4 lead.
In the Tigers' half of the ninth inning, Tingler reached on a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hoover. After an OSU pitching change, Ehlers drove in Tingler with a single to center field. A walk to Lee Laskowski and one out brought Roughton to the plate. When the ball left the bat, it appeared Roughton had tied the game but the fly ball was caught at the warning track to end the contest.
Tingler, Ehlers and Roughton each had two hits while Ehlers had two runs batted in. Tingler extended his career-best hit streak to 21 games. Garrett Broshuis suffered the loss and falls to 4-5 overall.
Missouri is now 23-22 overall and 9-12 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma State is 31-15 overall and 9-9 in league action.
The teams play Saturday at 2 p.m.
