
Missouri Sweeps in Men's and Women's Hammer Throw

Columbia, Mo. - The only college event in the first day of the Missouri Relays was the hammer throw, and the Tigers took the title in both the men's and women's event.
Sophomore Holly Scherder won the women's hammer throw with her toss of 172-2. The mark bettered her previous personal-best by nearly 4.5 feet. Sophomore Janae Strickland also had her personal best Friday, finishing in fourth place with a 146-11 toss. Ann Snider was fifth (146-0), Lindsey Markworth was seventh (123-8) and Taby Robbins was eighth (120-9) for the Tigers.
In the men's hammer, senior Micah Shanks won with his toss of 195-9. Junior Russ Bell was second with a mark of 195-6. Freshman Adam Burla had his personal best in the event with a toss of 158-0 and finished seventh.
The Missouri Relays continue tomorrow, beginning with the high school boys invitational long jump at 9 a.m. and the women's 100-meter hurdles at 10 a.m.
