
No. 25 SMS Hands Missouri A 20-10 Setback

COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 25 Southwest Missouri State handed Missouri a 20-10 setback Tuesday night in non-conference play at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
On his 20th birthday, Cody Ehlers led Missouri with three hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Jayce Tingler also scored three runs after getting a hit to extend his hit streak to 11 games. Tingler was also walked three times.
SMS improves to 25-6 with the win while Missouri is now 16-19.
Ehlers gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead when he hit his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot to right-center field, in the second inning.
SMS scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Dant'e Brinkley hit a two-run double to provide the inning's big blow.
Missouri plated a run in the third inning to make it a 4-2 game. However, SMS got one run in its half of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Bears erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to make it 10-2.
A two-run double by Mick Weiss make it 10-4 after five innings of play. Weiss' two-out hit scored Luke Cassis and Ehlers.
After SMS scored two runs in the sixth inning, Missouri answered with three runs of its own. Brent Lacy reached with a leadoff walk before Jayce Tingler and Luke Cassis hit back-to-back singles. Lacy scored on Cassis' hit. After a walk to Lee Laskowski, Ehlers had a two-run single to left field to make it 12-7.
SMS used three hits to score two runs in the seventh inning and pull ahead, 14-7. The Bears plated two more runs in the eighth inning to make it 16-7 before the Tingler scored in the eighth inning for a 16-8 score. SMS added four runs in the ninth inning before the Tigers scored twice in their half for the 20-10 final score.
In the MU ninth, Ehles led off with a single. Pinch hitter Kurt Propst singled before W.T. Hoover walked with two outs to load the bases. Tingler walked to score Ehlers before Cassis reached on an error to plate Propst.
Missouri will play Saint Louis Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
