
Missouri Downs Saint Louis, 11-4

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri erupted for 11 runs on 15 hits Wednesday night to hand Saint Louis an 11-4 loss in non-conference play at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Jody Roughton, a junior infielder from Carthage, Mo., led Missouri (17-19) with three hits and three runs batted in. Missouri scored a run in six of eight innings at the plate.
Missouri scored one run in the first inning. W.T. Hoover hit a one-out single and moved to second on a balk before Cody Ehlers singled to center field to score Hoover.
Saint Louis used a three-run home run by Cory Lawson in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Missouri answered with four runs of its own in the third. Jayce Tingler walked and went to third base on a single by Hoover. Tingler scored on a wild pitch. Lee Laskowski walked for the second consecutive plate appearance. Both Hoover and Laskowski scored on Mick Weiss' triple to left-center field. Weiss scored on a single by Roughton to give MU a 5-3 lead.
Ehlers led off the fifth inning with a double. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Roughton to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead.
SLU's Ryan Murphy led off the sixth inning with a home run. The Tigers answered that tally with a run of their own in their half of the inning. Brent Lacy led off the inning with a double. Luke Cassis walked before Tingler singled to center field to score Lacy and Missouri a 7-4 lead. Tingler's single extended his hit streak to 12 games.
In the seventh, Missouri plated two runs. With one out, Roughton singled. He scored when Julo tripled off the center field wall. Julo scored when Brent Lacy singled and Missouri had a 9-4 lead.
In the eighth, the Tigers erupted again. With one out, Laskowski singled to center field. Bo Davis replaced Laskowski as a pinch runner and Davis scored when Roughton doubled to right field. Roughton scored when Julo reached on a hit to give MU an 11-4 advantage.
Derek Roper picked up the win for the Tigers. Abel Newton, Justin James and Travis Wendte each worked one scoreless inning.
Hoover, Ehlers, Laskowski, Julo and Lacy each had two hits. Weiss and Julo each drove in two runs.
Missouri returns to Big 12 Conference play as the Tigers will play Kansas Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
