Nov. 1, 2002
Columbia, Mo.-The Mizzou women's soccer program bid farewell to graduating seniors Suzy Probst and Carrie Crossett in grand fashion ushering out the pair with a 2-0 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks and sum up the 2002 regular season. The win boosts the Tigers to an 11-6-2 season record with a 5-4-1 Big 12 Conference mark.
Midfielder Karen Bauer proved to be the lynch pin in the Tiger victory setting up both of Mizzou's game-winning plays. Missouri scored its first goal midway through the first half. Earning a free kick, Bauer lofted a pass thru the Kansas penalty area where freshman forward Jennifer Nobis strategically waited to knock the ball into the KU net.
Mizzou solidified their victory scoring a second goal 20 minutes into the second period. Forward Adriene Davis aggressively confronted Kansas goalkeeper Meghan Miller. She lured the keeper with a slide attempt, but was thwarted, as Miller was able to swipe the ball out of Davis' control. Bauer stepped in to rip a close range shot that was deflected by a Kansas defender. Relentlessly Davis went in for another stab taking advantage of the misplaced keeper to successfully slide the ball over the goal line to score her 10th goal of the year.
Overall, the Tigers dominated the game outshooting the Jayhawks 15-to-7. Missouri also forced six saves from Miller taking eight shots on goal. Missouri keeper Stephanie Krawczyk earned her second shutout victory of the year making two saves in the game.
Mizzou extends the 2002 season into tournament play next weekend competing in the Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio, Texas. Games are scheduled Nov. 7-10 at Blossom Stadium.
