Port St. Lucie, Fla. - The University of Missouri women's golf team shot a 302, the fourth best team score of the day, in round three of the adidas Fall Invitational. The Tigers finished third overall in the tournament with a score of 904. MU entered the final day tied with eventual tournament champion Baylor, but the Bears registered a 297 and the University of Arkansas shot a sizzling round of 289 to jump ahead of Mizzou in the final rankings.
Missouri had one Tiger finish in the top five individually. Senior Elin Ohlsson tallied at three-day score of 219, just three over par, to place fourth in the overall individual standings. This is Ohlsson's second top five finish of the season.
Freshman Stephanie Turner finished the tournament in the top 20 after holding sixth place for the first two rounds. Struggling in the final round, Turner shot 75-74-80 respectively to finish tied for 15th with Nebraska's Stephanie Ruiz.
Three more Missouri Tigers swung in with top thirty finishes. Sophomore Maria Ohlsson finished 23rd with her consistent game, shooting rounds of 77, 77 and 79. Freshman Kelli Strubinger (86-78-71) tied junior teammate Mindy Bullard (82-74-79) for 27th with a score of 235. Her round of 71 was one of only four rounds under par in tournament play and was her best round of her young career. Denise Knaeble finished 36th shooting 79-80-81=252.
The Tigers wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Nov. 4-5 when they travel to Kiawah, South Carolina for the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by the College of Charleston. For more information on Missouri Women's golf, log on to www.mutigers.com.
