Franklin, Ind. - The University of Missouri Women's golf team finished the first day in third place at the "Shootout at the Legends" in Franklin, Ind., on Monday. The Tigers shot an opening day total of 595, just six strokes back of tournament-leader Kent State.

Freshman Kelli Strubinger, who was the Tigers top finisher on the day, shot rounds of 76 and 72 for a total of 148. She is 10 strokes behind tournament-leader Karen Dennison of Indiana. Strubinger led the Tiger's to their two best rounds of the year fining a 298 in the opening round and a 297 in the second round as a team.

"I was very pleased with the consistency we played with today and the mental toughness our kids showed," head coach Stephanie Cooper said. "Our young kids are playing well right now and our older, more experienced kids are showing great leadership."

Several of the Tigers had quality rounds on Monday. Sophomore Maria Ohlsson (72-77=149) finished the day tied for 12th while fellow sophomore Mindy Bullard is tied for 18th after rounds of 79 and 72. Senior Elin Ohlsson and freshman Denise Knaebel are both tied for 22nd with two-round totals of 152 while freshman Stephanie Turner turned in rounds of 79 and 79. The Tigers were the only squad in the tournament that did not have an individual break the 80-stroke barrier.
