Manhattan, Kan.. - The Missouri Men's Golf team again finished strong in a tournament, moving up four places to end the day at fourth place at the Kansas State Jim Colbert Intercollegiate. Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan hosted the tournament. The par-72, 7525-yard course proved to be difficult on Monday due to strong southerly winds, but Tuesday seemed to be more favorable for the golfers as many scores were near par. Missouri as a team finished with a score of 300, only one stroke off the best team score of the day handed in by both Lamar and host Kansas State. The winners of the tournament were Southern Methodist and Lamar both claiming a score of 914. Missouri finished only 10 strokes off the lead with a 924 (312-312-300 = 924).
Once again junior Brandon Knaub led the Tigers, shooting a 73 on the day and finishing tied for third in the tournament at eight over par (74-77-73 = 224). Knaub completed the tournament nine strokes back of tournament winner Aaron Watkins of Kansas State who shot one under par for the week.
Junior transfer David Jenkins turned a total of 233 strokes for the three rounds (76-81-76) and finished tied for 20th at 17 over par. Freshman Chris Mabry ended the tournament tied for 33rd (83-75-78 = 236). Sophomore Michael Radek turned in a score of 238 for the tournament (t39, 79-79-80 = 238). Tiger Senior Chris Happ shot just one over par on the day with a score of 73 (t47, 85-82-73 = 240).
The Tigers' next tournament is October 7-8 in St. Charles, Mo., when the Tigers host the Nestle Purina Classic at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club. For complete tournament coverage log on to www.mutigers.com.
