Mary Lauren Smith Named AVCA National Volleyball Player of the Week

Missouri junior Mary Lauren Smith was named the AVCA/Sports Imports National Players of the Week on Monday. Smith was also chosen as the Big 12 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.

Smith posted back-to-back 20 kill matches last week to lead MU to victories over No. 20 Texas and No. 23 Colorado. Smith had a hitting percentage of .432 against the Buffaloes and hit .394 against the Aggies for a .414 hitting percentage for the week. She also averaged 4.44 kills per game on the week.

Smith currently leads Mizzou with a 4.02 kills per game average on the year and has a hitting percentage of .311. Additionally, she has recorded 20 total blocks for the season.

The Tigers have now received two of the five Big 12 Player of the Week awards this season. Teammate Shen Danru received the accolade on Sept. 9.

Missouri will host Iowa State on Wednesday in the Hearnes Center before traveling to Texas Tech on Saturday.
