Franklin, Tenn. - The University of Missouri women's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Mason Rudolph Championships at the Legends Club of Tennessee in Franklin, Tenn. The Tigers posted an opening round tally of 322, but bettered their result in the second round by 17 strokes with a total of 305 for a Day 1 total of 627. The Mason Rudolph field is a good one with several Top-10 squads including No. 1 Arizona, who leads the tournament with an opening-day total of 141.
Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said that Mizzou's second round rally was a welcome sight as the young Tigers continue to improve.
"The team really stuck together and rallied around each other, " Cooper said. "We did not play our best golf today but we still were very competitive and we will hopefully make a run tomorrow against a very tough field of teams."
Freshman Kelli Strubinger had the finest day of her young career on Monday as she shot rounds of 79 and a career-best mark of 72 for a Day-1 total of 151 tying her for 14th position, ten shots off of the lead. Her second round was sparked by three straight birdies on her final three holes of the day and was the third best round recorded in the second stanza.
The Ohlsson sisters (Maria and Elin) finished the day tied for 44th position with a two-round total of 157. While senior Elin's day was rock-solid consistent (rounds of 78 and 79), sophomore Maria had a tough opening round total of 83 followed by a red-hot 74 in the second round.
