Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. -
Representatives from the University of Missouri Department of Athletics had the following comments regarding the Board of Curators' approval of the schematic design for the new basketball arena to be constructed on the Sports Park at MU grounds:
Director of Athletics Mike Alden:
"We are pleased that the Board of Curators has chosen to move forward with this project. Though the current economic climate of the State of Missouri is not necessarily favorable, we do feel that a new arena at the University of Missouri is a sound fiscal proposition and we are happy that our Curators agree. The new arena will not only be a statement of commitment for the Department of Athletics and the University of Missouri, but it will also be a major financial positive for the State in future years."
Men's Basketball Head Coach Quin Snyder:
"The Board of Curators' action today continues the process in providing what will be one of the premier on-campus basketball facilities in the country. Our players are unbelievably pleased and are eagerly anticipating the completion of the arena. We know that it will be a tremendous asset in fulfilling our program's mission, and we are grateful to the Curators, the University, and the people of Missouri."
Women's Basketball Head Coach Cindy Stein:
"This approval highlights what a great project this is for the University and its women's basketball program, as well as the City of Columbia and the State of Missouri. We thank the Board for recognizing this project's value. Once the basketball arena is in place, Mizzou will continue to distinguish itself throughout college athletics as a result of its model facilities."
