Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri men's track & field team had a late start, but lead all teams with 25 points after two scored events.
After a nearly four-hour delay, the first day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway at Walton Stadium at the University of Missouri, and the results were good for the Tigers.
Junior Russ Bell finished second in the men's hammer throw with throw of 200-2. The throw is good for a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Missouri scored 18 points in the hammer as Bell took second place, senior Micah Shanks finished third, junior Christian Cantwell placed fifth and freshman Adam Burla finished 11th.
The women's hammer throw was postponed until Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
The Tigers scored seven points in the men's 10,000m as freshman Josh Davis finished second and senior Adam MacDowell took seventh place.
Junior Knut Sommerfeldt is in sixth place after day one in the decathlon. After five events, he has compiled a score of 3,635 points.
Junior Fiona Asigbee had a personal-best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.82. Her time was good for 1,004 points in the heptathlon. She finished the first day of the heptathlon in third place with 3,182 points. Abbe Ohneck was in fifth place with 2,982 points at the end of Friday's events.
"I was surprised with my hurdle race," Asigbee said. "It was real cold and rainy and it kept getting delayed. It could have been better, but it was raining and cold. My other events went well. I'm pretty happy with my first day score considering the conditions."
The second day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles.
