DAY ONE QUOTES

HEPTATHLON
Katherine Livesey - Nebraska (Day One Leader)
On her day one score:
"I was just surprised by my score because the weather was so bad and I didn't even know if we were going to go today. The hurdles were the best part of the day because it was a PR for me. But I can't count my chickens until tomorrow."

DECATHLON
Andy Morris- Kansas (Day One Leader)
On his first day performance:
"This is definitely up there with one of my best first days. I had a couple of events that I didn't do as well as I should have done and I also had some surprises."

On his best part of the day:
"The long jump was the best. It typically isn't. The last couple of weeks, it has come around for me. And I have improved by about a half a meter. That's definitely a good thing for me."

On what he expects tomorrow:
"The hurdles will definitely be good for me. Hopefully the vault will be, but that's definitely not by strong point and I had a really good first day. I'm just trying to get to the second day."

WOMEN'S 10,000M
Debbie Thornhill- Baylor
On her race strategy:
"We had a plan, and we know that we have a shot at winning the conference as a team. The plan was to take the lead every two laps (between Thornhill and her teammate, runner-up Kara Newton), take the pressure off each other and that made it easier for us."

On how Colorado's absence effected their strategy:
"We figured they wouldn't be here, because they never are. If they had run, we planned on going out and staying with them as long as we could."

MEN'S 10,000M
Mike Mwangong- Iowa State
On his victory in the 10,000 meter run:
"It's really exciting. It was a good race and a good change from the old system. It was our goal for me to win the race and I can't believe I won like we planned."

On the advice he received from his coach:
"Right from the beginning my coach told me to run smart and that's what I tried to do. I just tried to relax and survive and I did a good job. I have a great coach and I just did what he told me."
