Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri softball pitcher Ingrid Werner was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VII Softball Team it was announced by Verizon on Thursday. This marks the first time in her career that Werner has received the honor. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America in District VII select the team and Werner will now be eligible to receive Academic All-American honors.
"It is a great honor to be named to this elite group," Werner said. "It definitely serves as a motivator to me to continue to work hard and strive to improve both on the field and in the classroom."
Werner was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, which was announced at the 2002 Big 12 Tournament, for the second time in her career. She also received NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors last season.
She worked 166 2/3 innings this season registering a 2.40 ERA. She struck out 55 batters while leading the Tigers in complete games (11) and starts (31). Her name can be found throughout the Tiger record books. She ranks 8th on the all-time appearances list (98), 10th on the all-time innings pitched charts (419 2/3) and eighth on the career strikeouts list (220).
