Santa Clara, CA - The Tigers started their second road trip of the spring season this weekend in Santa Clara, Calif. The Santa Clara University Broncos are this year's national champions.
After playing two strong halves, the Tigers fell to Santa Clara 2-0. Goals were scored by the Bronco's Allie Teague and Kristi Candau.
Although Santa Clara came out on top, the Tigers out shot the Broncos 13 to 10. Strong offense by Kristen Heil, Melissa Peabody and Adriene Davis gave Missouri opportunities to score.
Defenders Ashley Gibbs, Kristin Gibbons and Kim Hibbert kept the Tigers alive in the backfield. They kept pressure on the Broncos' forwards and forced them to play a physical game.
Playing the defending champions was a great opportunity for self-examination for the team.
"This was a great learning experience for our team. We learned that we can play with the good teams. We played well by out shooting them but we know we need to work on finishing each shot. This is a young team and with maturity they will learn to win under these circumstances," said Coach Blitz.
The Tigers returned to action Sunday, April 21 at University of California - Berkley for a 7-a side Tournament at 8am.
