Tiger Volleyball Welcomes Chinese Team to Columbia

April 17, 2002

Columbia, Mo.-In May and June of 2001, the University of Missouri volleyball team went on a two-week good will excursion to the Jiang Su province of China. While they were in China, the Tigers had an opportunity to experience the culture and excitement that surrounded volleyball in China. Now, the Southeast University Women's Chinese team is returning the favor.

The Tigers will welcome the squad that hails from the southeastern part of China for a week of training and touring of mid-Missouri which will culminate with an exhibition match on Sat., Apr. 27th in the Hearnes Center at 7 pm. Head coach Susan Kreklow said that this a great opportunity for the Tigers to train against some great competition and also to bring a different culture to mid-Missouri.

"We are very excited to have such a quality representative of Chinese volleyball coming to Columbia," Kreklow said. "This is a good chance for our team to face a different style of competition and also to expose central Missouri to a different cultural experience."

Several activities will be on the docket during the course of the week. The teams will participate in two practices a day throughout the week. They will then tour different sites around mid-Missouri including the St. Louis Gateway Arch and the Lake of the Ozarks. The Tigers and University team will visit different schools around the community and will host a youth clinic on Saturday before the match starting at 2 pm in the Hearnes Center Field House.
