Men's Golf in 4th Place After 1st Day at ASU Indian Classic

Jonesboro, Ark. - The University of Missouri men's golf team shot team rounds of 291 and 295 on Monday, and stand in 4th place after day one of the ASU Indian Classic, held at Ridge Point Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.

South Alabama leads the 13-team field through two rounds, with a team score of 573. They're followed by host Arkansas State (2nd - 580), South Florida (3rd - 586) and Mizzou. The Tigers stood just three shots off the pace after Monday's morning round, but South Alabama separated itself in the afternoon.

Individually for Head Coach Tim Robyn's squad, junior Cory Ewert led the way. He shot rounds of 73 and an even par 72 on Monday, and stands tied for 8th place overall after day one with a two-round total of 145. Sophomore Brandon Knaub shot a two-under 70 in the morning round, and followed with a 76 in the afternoon for a 146 total that has him tied for 12th.

Just one shot back of Knaub is freshman Ben Scott. Scott shot rounds of 73 and 74 for a 147 total that has him tied for 19th. Senior Mark McBride struggled in the morning round, shooting a six-over 78, but recovered in the afternoon with a 73. His 151 total has him tied for 34th place entering Tuesday's final round. Junior Chris Happ is tied for 55th place invididually entering the final round of play, after shooting rounds of 75 and 81 on Monday.

This tournament will serve as the final regular-season tuneup for the 2002 Big 12 Championships, which are scheduled for April 29-30 in Hutchinson, Kan.
