Missouri Falls to Atlanta Beat

April 14, 2002

Atlanta, Ga. - The Missouri Tigers fell to the Atlanta Beat on Sunday. The Beat is one of the eight WUSA professional teams that was recently started in the United States.

Playing at Georgia Tech University, the Tigers gave a valiant effort on the field. With help from all ends of the field, the team managed to put up a good fight.

Defenders Kim Hibbert, Carrie Crossett and Kristin Gibbons played strong in the backfield, helping out goalies Stephanie Krawczyk and Megan Duncan. Combined, Krawczyk and Duncan had 10 saves.

Missouri's goal of the game was scored by Melissa Peabody in the second half. After a perfect pass from Adriene Davis, Peabody took a shot from the right side that slid straight into the corner of the net.

By bringing fierce competition against the Beat, Missouri proved that they can compete with the best.

Coach Blitz was very pleased with the team's performance.

"This was a great opportunity to play at such a high level. The team got a chance to learn a lot. They played extremely well in the second half, keeping it a 2-1 game. I am pleased with the weekend and growth of the team. I think they will carry it through to next week when we play the national champions," said Blitz.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday, April 20, in California when they play the existing national champions, Santa Clara.
