Missouri To Battle Southeast Missouri On Tuesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. - In the first game of a four-game non-conference homestand, Missouri faces Southeast Missouri at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. Missouri is 11-15 while Southeast Missouri is 9-11.

Last Time Out: Missouri picked up a 7-1 win over Texas Tech on March 31. Garrett Broshuis struck out six batters and allowed seven hits during his eight-inning stint on the pitcher's mound. Luke Cassis had three hits in the game. Missouri used a five-run outburst in the ninth inning to pull away from the nationally ranked Red Raiders. The win was the 100th career conference victory for head coach Tim Jamieson.

Series: Missouri has a 15-4 lead in the series. Under head coach Tim Jamieson, the Tigers are 10-3 against Southeast Missouri. MU won both meetings last season.

Who's Hot? MU had five players (Luke Cassis, Mick Weiss, Ryan Rallo, Jody Roughton and Lee Laskowski) get five hits during this past week's action.

It's A Hit: Sophomore outfielder Lee Laskowski is on his second 10-game hit streak of the season. He has hit in 23 of the Tigers' 26 games in 2002. Laskowski opened the season with a 10-game streak (actually 13, dating back to 2001).

The Whiff: Freshman Travis Wendte continues to post big strikeout totals. Wendte struck out two batters in his inning of work against Texas Tech (3/31 - game two) to push his season totals to 23 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. In his last five appearances (8.2 innings), Wendte has struck out 12 batters.

Big 12 Records: Matt Hobbs set a Big 12 Conference record when he struck out seven straight batters over a two-game stretch. Hobbs struck out the final four batters he faced against Harris-Stowe (3/26) before whiffing the side in the seventh inning against Texas Tech (3/29). Hobbs and Derek Roper teamed to strike out nine consecutive batters against Harris-Stowe (3/26).

Big 12 Stats: Cody Ehlers ranks fifth in hitting (.396) while Lee Laskowski is 18th (.353). Jayce Tingler ranks fifth in runs scored (32) while Mick Weiss and Jody Roughton are tied for eighth with 27 runs batted in. Ehlers is fifth in slugging percentage (.703) and eighth in on base percentage (.481). On the mound, Abel Newton is eighth with 39 strikeouts.
