March 5, 2002

The University of Missouri baseball team opened its home schedule by recording two wins on Tuesday. In the game one of the day, the Tigers defeated Missouri Baptist 10-4. They followed that with a 14-7 victory over Lindenwood.

Missouri Baptist got on the board early in the first game, as they plated two runs in the first inning. The Tigers answered that by scoring six in the bottom of the first on only two hits. One of the two hits was a grand slam off the bat of MU senior Kurt Propst with one out in the inning.

Missouri added two runs in the third and sophomore Ryan Rallo had a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the victory for the Tigers.

Freshman Abel Newton pitched seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned, struck out five and walked none.

In game two, The Tigers scored early and often. After putting two on the board in the first inning, Missouri scored three runs in each of the next three innings and jumped out to an 11-0 lead.

Lindenwood attempted to make a late comeback as they scored four runs in the eigth inning.

Sophomore Cody Ehlers and junior Chris Julo each hit home runs in the fourth inning for Missouri.

Missouri (5-4) will play William Woods at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
