Lakeland, Fla. - The University of Missouri men's golf team fired rounds of 288 and 301 Monday and stand tied for 3rd place at the 15-team Matlock Invitational, held at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla. Mizzou's two-round total of 589 left them 11 shots behind day one leader Tulsa, and 9 behind 2nd-place Colorado. The third and final round of the tournament will be held Tuesday.
Senior Mark McBride (Lebanon, Mo.) led the way individually for Missouri through day one, as he carded a two-under par 70 in the morning and an even-par 72 in the afternoon to stand 6th overall. His two-round total of 142 is just 4 shots off the leader Ben Portie of Colorado, who is atop the standings heading into Tuesday's final round, with a two-round 138.
Two other Tigers joined McBride in the individual top-20 through day one. Sophomore Brandon Knaub (Seven Valleys, Pa.) and junior Chris Happ (Winnetka, Ill.) shot totals of 148 and 149, respectively, and stand tied for 18th and 20th overall. Knaub was one under in the morning round, while Happ shot an even-par 72 in the opening 18.
Not far back in the standings included sophomore Mike Radek (Chicago, Ill.) and Ben Scott (Lancashire, United Kingdom), who stand tied for 31st and 34th, respectively.
