Missouri sophomore Jeremy Spates defeated Jason DeBruin of Hofstra in the 35th Annual National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic on Monday in Hempstead, NY.
The NWCA All-Star Classic features the top wrestlers at each weight class. Spates had defeated DeBurin once before, recording a 1-0 decision on Jan. 12 in the Virginia Duals.
"He wrestled really well tonight," MU Head Coach Brian Smith said. "He wrestled a smart match. This was good for his confidence to be able to come here a dominate in the match. After having the close match the last time he wrestled DeBruin, it is good to come here and get a big win like this one."
Spates is ranked No. 9 in the 149-pound class in the latest Intermat poll. He has an overall record of 16-4 and is 9-1 in duals.
The Tiger wrestling team is off until Feb. 7 when it will travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones. Mizzou's next home action is Feb. 10 against Michigan State.
