
Tigers Tracksters To Travel To Penn State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri track and field team takes to the road this weekend as the Tigers travel to State College, Pa., to compete in the Penn State Invitational May 5.
Missouri Women Ranked 20th Nationally
The University of Missouri women's track and field team is ranked 20th in this week's Trackwire.com national poll. The Tigers received 12 votes and are in a four-way tie with Illinois, University of Miami and Washington.
Bell Picks Up Win At Drake Relays
The University of Missouri track and field team completed two days of competition at the Drake Relays with two of its big guns turning in prime-time performances.
Sophomores Russ Bell ripped a 181-1 in the discus to pick up the win, while teammate Christian Cantwell threw 62-4 in the shot put for third place. Not to be outdone, the women's 4x800m relay team also had a big performance with a time of 8:44.95 to take the win in the 4x800m relay. The women's distance medley relay team finished second (11:18.22).
Coach's Corner
MU Head Coach Rick McGuire (St. Lawrence University, 1969) is in his 18th year coaching the Tigers. He led the 2001 women's indoor distance medley team to the national championship.The 2000 Big 12 Conference Indoor Coach of the Year, McGuire has guided 27 Missouri tracksters to 73 All-American honors. He has been inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Drake Relays Hall of Fame and has been a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic staffs.
McGuire is joined on the sidelines this season by assistant coaches Brett Halter (8th year), Jared Wilmes (1st year), Rebecca Wilmes (2nd year), Matt Candrl (1st year) and Chad Shade (1st year).
