
Homers Power Kansas State Past Missouri

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- A big inning again spelled doom for the University of Missouri baseball team against Kansas State. The Wildcats hit four homers on their way to a seven-run third inning and picked up a 10-5 win over Missouri Sunday at Frank Myers Field in Big 12 Conference baseball action. The win gives KSU a sweep of the Tigers.
Missouri plated two runs in the first inning. Jayce Tingler walked and moved to second base on a double Ryan Stegall. Mick Weiss lofted a fly ball to right field which was dropped to score Tingler. Stegall scored on a fielder's choice play by Lee Laskowski for a 2-0 lead.
After Kansas State scored one run in its half of the first inning, Missouri got another run in the second inning. Wes Fewell tripled and then scored when Luke Cassis grounded out for a 3-1 lead.
The Wildcats scored a run in the second inning to make it 3-2. Stegall hit a one-out home run to center field in the third inning to make it 4-2. The homer was Stegall's 30th of his career, placing him sixth all-time at MU.
Kansas State hit four home runs to go with three walks on its way to a seven-run inning. The Wildcats hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the frame.
Stegall hit a one-out double in the eighth inning to give him 46 in his career, placing him in a tie for fifth all-time with Aaron Jaworowski all-time at Missouri. Stegall scored on a single by Mick Weiss to make it 10-5.
Stegall had three of the Tigers' seven hits in the game. Missouri had six extra-base hits in the contest. Mitch Kiler fell to 3-5 with the loss.
Missouri returns home Tuesday to play Southwest Missouri State at 7 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
