Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Tiger softball team (24-20, 4-5 Big 12) lit the fire when it really counted, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat No. 22 Texas A&M (27-12, 4-6 Big 12) 2-1.
Both teams' defenses were playing very well, and all was quiet until the top of the fifth, when one Aggie run scored off a single down the left field line by Angie Shetler, giving the Aggies the 1-0 lead.
The Tigers came alive in the bottom of the seventh, however, as Lindsey Jacoby singled to center field to start the inning. She would be put out at second on a ground ball play by Rachael McGinnis. Melanie Fisher then stepped to the plate, and hit a double down the left line that would advance McGinnis to third. McGinnis then scored on a wild pitch, tying the game 1-1. Texas A&M then intentionally walked Erin Erickson and Heather Allister, loading the bases with one out. The next batter, Jeni Schellert, struck out. With two out and the game tied, Stephanie Falk stepped to the plate, and hit a long fly ball that was dropped by the leftfielder, allowing another run to score to win the game 2-1.
Falk pitched, allowing just three hits and walking four in her 24th complete game of the season.
The Tigers finish the series with the Aggies Sunday at 1 p.m. at University Field.
