
Tigers Sweep Nationally Ranked Pepperdine

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri baseball team swept nationally ranked Pepperdine Saturday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. MU won 9-5 and 13-4 over the sixth-ranked Waves.
Missouri 9, Pepperdine 5
Missouri took a 1-0 lead when Jayce Tingler walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
The Waves scored two runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Tony Garcia singled and scored on a single by Dan Haren. Haren came around to score on a single by Dane Ball to make it 2-1, Pepperdine.
The Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Mick Weiss walked and moved to third base on a Lee Laskowski double. A balk scored Weiss and advanced Laskowski to third base. Laskowski scored on a squeeze bunt by W.T. Hoover.
In the fifth, Missouri scored four runs to take a 7-2 lead. The Tigers used two hits and two errors and three balks to score.
Laskowski homered to right with two outs in the seventh to give MU a 9-2 advantage and chase Haren, Pepperdine's starting pitcher. The Waves made it 9-5 with a three-run homer in the ninth inning.
Drew Endicott picked up the win for Missouri, scattering 12 hits in nine innings.

Tingler had a two-run double in the second inning to give Missouri a 2-0 lead. The Waves answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Missouri rallied, first scoring two runs in the sixth as Weiss walked and moved to third on a single by Brian Desch. Propst singled to drive in Weiss and move Desch to third base. Desch scored on an infield ground out by Ryan Rallo to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
The Tigers made it 5-3 by taking advantage of three walks and a wild pitch - all coming with two outs. Weiss, Laskowski and Desch walked to load the bases before Weiss scored on a wild pitch.
Pepperdine cut it to 5-4 in the eighth inning. Missouri loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the eighth. Jon Williams singled to right field to drive in two runs. The Tigers loaded the bases again before Weiss singled to make it 8-4. Desch had a RBI single to make it 9-4. W.T. Hoover cleared the bases with a double down the right-field line and gave the Tigers a 12-4 lead. MU made it 13-4 by scoring on an error.
The two teams will complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
