
Tigers Erupt Against Truman State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri baseball team used a season-high 17 hits to down Truman State 12-2 Wednesday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. Missouri, which has won four straight games and six of the past seven, improves to 9-8-1 overall.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first innings after two outs were recorded. Ryan Stegall reached on an error and scored on a double by Mick Weiss, whose hit extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Lee Laskowski reached on an error to score Weiss.
After Truman State scored in the top half of the third inning, Felipe Tetelboin singled with one out. He stole second and scored on a single to center by Jayce Tingler to make it 3-1.
Ryan Stegall led off the third inning with a home run to left-center field. The home run, Stegall's fourth of the season, gives Stegall 24 career home runs. The 24 homers place him ninth all-time at MU.
Missouri used back-to-back doubles by W.T. Hoover and Tingler in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Stegall singled to open the seventh inning and he came around to score on Weiss' opposite-field home run to left field for a 7-1 Missouri lead.
Hoover led off the eighth inning with a double and scored on a triple by Tingler. Tingler scored on a single by Jon Williams. Stegall was hit by a pitch and a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third base, respectively. Weiss grounded out to score Tony Vitello, who replaced Williams as a pinch-runner, while Laskowski homered to left-center to drive in Stegall and make it 12-2.
Hoover, Tingler and Laskowski each had three hits. Hoover had a pair of doubles and a single while Tingler singled, doubled and tripled. Stegall and Weiss each had two hits. Weiss drove in a season-best four runs while Stegall scored a season-best four times.
The Tigers will take on nationally ranked Pepperdine Friday at 7 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
