Tigers Rebound With 8-2 Win over Kansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team recorded an 8-2 win Saturday over Kansas in Big 12 Conference baseball action at Taylor Stadium. Jon Williams was the hitting hero for Missouri as he had three hits - a home run, a single and a double.

The Tigers improve to 6-8-1 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play while the Jayhawks are now 8-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12.

Missouri opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Jon Williams was hit by a pitch and stole second base. He came in to score on a two-out single by Mick Weiss. The hit extended Weiss' hit streak to 10 games.

KU scored a run in both the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead. KU took the lead on Jason Appuhn's solo home run to left field.

The Tigers tied the game when Williams led off the third inning with a home run to right-center field. Missouri took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. Cody Ehlers led off the frame with a double and went to third on a sacrifice. He scored on a sacrifice fly by W.T. Hoover. Missouri made it 4-2 in the fifth inning. Williams hit a one-out double and scored on a Weiss double.

The Tigers extended their lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning. With two outs, Luke Cassis and Jayce Tingler walked. Williams stroked a single to center, his third hit of the game, to drive in both Cassis and Tingler.

Missouri put across a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Hoover singled while Cassis reached on a fielder's choice. Tingler walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Hoover while a passed ball plated Cassis to give MU an 8-2 lead.

Jon Harris (1-0) picked up the win while Logan Dale recorded the save.

The Tigers and Jayhawks conclude the three-game series Sunday at 2 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
