Women's Golf Takes 5th at Midwest Classic

The University of Missouri women's golf team opened its 2001 spring season with a solid 5th-place team performance at the Midwest Classic, which was held from Feb. 23-25 at the Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Course in Dallas.
Missouri finished 5th of 18 teams in the competition, and were just three strokes behind 3rd-place Oklahoma. Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title with a three-round team score of 906, followed by Ohio State (2nd - 914), Oklahoma (3rd - 924), Baylor (4th - 926) and Missouri (5th - 927).
Individually, senior Amelia Moses led the way as she narrowly missed claiming individual honors. Moses finished in 2nd place for the tournament with a three-round score of 221. She finished just four strokes behind champion Mollie Fankhauser of Ohio State, who won with a 217 total. Moses' final-round four-over par 76 proved costly, as Fankhauser overtook her with a final-round 70.
Junior Nisha Sadekar gave MU another top-20 finisher, as she carded a three-round total of 233 to tie for 20th place individually. Sadekar fired rounds of 78-78-77 to reach her total.
Sophomore Elin Ohlsson (T-30th - 236), senior Jamie Tucker (T-47th - 240) and freshman Tara Jacobsen (72nd - 250) rounded out the Tiger competitors.
Missouri is off until the first week of March, when they'll return to the state of Texas to compete in the GTE MO-Morial, to be held March 5-6 in Houston. Missouri is the two-time defending champion in the tournament.
