
Tigers Host All-Comers Meet

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri track and field team host the All-Comers meet Sat. Feb. 17, at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. The Tigers hope to qualify more athletes before traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big 12 Conference Championships Feb. 23-24.
Brooks And Cantwell Bring The Noise And The Funk At Iowa State
Junior distance runner Ann Marie Brooks earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships in the 3000-meter run with her performance at the Iowa State Classic Feb. 9-10.
Brooks finished second with a time of 9:23.01, which is a second under the automatic standard of 9:24.0. She has also provisionally qualified in the mile.
The women's distance medley relay team also recorded a provisional qualifying time of 11:30.11, which placed them second. The men's DMR just missed the provisional time of 9:48.0. The Tiger men's time was 9:42.12.
Sophomore Christian Cantwell continued his hot streak in the throws, with a 62-6 mark in the shot put, which placed him third. Fellow sophomore Russ Bell finished eighth in the shot with a 57-1.50 heave and finished 10th in the weight throw 60-0.25 mark in the weight throw.
Wysong Receives WIN Award And Big 12 Classroom Champion Award
Senior Ashley Wysong received the Women's Intersport Network Collegiate Sportswoman of the Year Award Feb. 2. She was also named Big 12 Classroom Champion (announced during the broadcast of the Kansas State/Colorado men's basketball game on FoxSports). A four-time All-American, she is the daughter of Kathi and Tim Wysong of Nevada, Mo. Ashley is a Conley Scholar and has been accepted into the MU Medical School. She is the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is the Big 12 SAAC representative.
More Bounce To The Ounce
Senior high jumper Jay Meystedt cleared the seven foot mark for the first time this season Feb. 2. He is fourth in the Big 12 Conference. He is also in a tie for 13th place nationally.
Un D?a Soleado

Senior Sunny Gilberthas quietly made her mark on the 2001 indoor season. The Ellisville, Mo. native, has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800m. Her time of 2:08.77 is tops in the conference and seventh nationally. She is also a member of the distance medley relay team that qualified at ISU. This marks the second year in a row that she will compete at nationals in the DMR (2000 team finished 10th).
Throwin' Shot Around
Sophomore Christian Cantwell has put up big numbers in the shot and weight all season. For the third week in a row he has recorded a provisional mark in the shot put. His 62-6 at ISU (Feb. 10) broke the oldest record in the MU record books (Gene Crews threw 61-7.5 at the 1966 NCAA Championships). From his very first weight throw in 2001 (he qualified in the weight Jan. 12) - to his school, meet and personal record 70-3.75 (1st Big 12, 6th nationally) heave at the Triangular Jan. 26, he has posted qualifying marks in every meet this season. Cantwell now holds the indoor school records in both the weight throw and shot put.
Coach's Corner
MU Head Coach Rick McGuire (St. Lawrence University, 1969) is in his 18th year coaching the Tigers. The 2000 Big 12 Conference Indoor Coach of the Year, McGuire has guided 25 Missouri tracksters to 66 All-American honors. He has been inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Drake Relays Hall of Fame and has been a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic staffs.
McGuire is joined on the sidelines this season by assistant coaches Brett Halter (8th year), Jared Wilmes (1st year), Rebecca Wilmes (2nd year), Matt Candrl (1st year) and Chad Shade (1st year).
