Columbia, Mo.- University of Missouri middle blocker Christi Myers has been invited to tryout for the USA Women's Summer Training Program, it was announced today by head volleyball coach Susan Kreklow. Myers will travel to San Diego, California on Dec. 15-16 for the tryout that will feature the top volleyball players in the country.
"Christi had a great year for us and has improved every year during her career," Kreklow said. "To be invited to a tryout of this caliber is a great honor for both her and our program."
The primary focus of the training will be to identify prospective athletes to travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado for training with the Women's National Training Team, which runs from June 1 through July 8, 2002. Participants will be eligible to be participating members of the National Team during the summer months.
"I am very excited to represent the University of Missouri volleyball program and to be part of such a prestigious training program," Myers said. "This experience will make me a better player and also will help me bring a new level of competition to our program."
Myers was named Honorable mention All-Big 12 for the second straight season in 2001. She averaged 3.50 kills, 2.33 digs and a team-high 1.19 blocks per game while leading the Big 12 in solo blocks with 22. She recorded 12 double-doubles this season and slated the first triple-double of her career against Texas A&M (18 kills, 15 digs and 11 total blocks). Myers recently had one of the best matches of her career when she put down a career-high 22 kills and picked up nine digs in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Illinois.
