Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The University of Missouri women's golf team shot a team round of 334 Friday and stands in fourth place in the 1st annual Alabama Capstone Intercollegiate, held at the Capstone Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The tournament continues with 18 holes of play Saturday, with the final round to take place on Sunday.
Junior Elin Ohlsson battled the tough course conditions Friday to shoot a six-over par 78, which put her tied for third individually after day one. She's joined in the early top-10 by teammate and senior Nisha Sadekar. Sadekar shot an eight-over 80 Friday, and is tied for seventh place heading into the weekend.
Other Tiger competitors included freshman Mindy Bullard, sophomore Annie Schlosser and freshman Maria Ohlsson. Bullard and Schlosser shot identical 88's on Friday, and stand in a tie for 49th place overall, while Ohlsson shot a 100, and is 91st individually.
The real winners on the first day of the Capstone Intercollegiate were "Mother Nature" and the course itself. The participants battled gusty wind all day long and several holes played extremely tough due to fast, dry greens. The fifth hole, a par 4, was the toughest on the course playing at an average score of 6.33 on the day with 32 scores of triple bogey or higher.
