Men's Golf Stands 9th at Jim Colbert Intercollegiate

Oct. 1, 2001

Manhattan, Kan. - A rough opening round outweighed a strong second-round improvement today, and the Missouri Tiger men's golf team stands 9th of nine teams after day one of the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate. The tournament, held at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan., will wrap up Tuesday with 18 holes of play.

The Tigers slipped to 9th out of the gates today, after struggling to a team score of 317 in Monday's opening round. Tim Robyn's squad, which finished 2nd in its fall opener in September, improved by 18 strokes in the 2nd round (the biggest improvement in the field), but could not move up the standings, as the 616 team score left them in 9th after day one.

Individually, freshman Ben Scott is tied for 7th after rounds of 72 and 75 left him with a two-round total of 147. Unfortunately for MU, Scott was playing as an individual, and his score, along with fellow newcomer Doug Albers (tied for 28th but also playing individually), did not count toward the team efforts.

Sophomore Mike Radek led Tiger players counting for the team score, as he shot rounds of 76 and 72 for a 148 total which left him tied for 9th place. Senior Mark McBride struggled with an eight-over 80 in the morning round, but came back to fire a one-over par 73 in the afternoon, and stands tied for 24th entering the final round.

Other Tiger competitors include sophomore Brandon Knaub (tied for 35th), and juniors Chris Happ and Cory Ewert (both tied for 48th).
