Women's Golf in 4th Place After Round One of Season Opener

Sept. 9, 2001

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Missouri women's golf team made its 2001-2002 season debut Sunday in Lincoln, Neb. at the Chip-N Club Invitational, and first year Head Coach Stephanie Cooper's Tigers stand in fourth place after day one.

Missouri shot a team score of 314 Sunday, which left behind only Kent State (1st -- 297), Penn State (2nd -- 306) and host Nebraska (3rd -- 311).

Individually, it was a family affair for the Tigers, as MU sisters Elin and Maria Ohlsson led the way. Junior Elin shot a one-over par 73 on Sunday, and stands in third place individually, just two strokes off the pace. Maria, a freshman making her first collegiate appearance, shot a four-over 76 on the day.

Senior captain Nisha Sadekar fired a six-over 78 on the day, while freshman Mindy Bullard and sophomore Annie Schlosser rounded out the Tiger lineup with respective rounds of 87 and 88.

Cooper was pleased with her teams' play on Sunday. "Our top three girls did well today," she said. "Elin was outstanding, just very steady all day. I was very proud of Maria, and the way she handled herself, even though I know she was a little nervous. Nisha was sharp as well, and has herself in position to have a nice tournament," she said.

The 13-team tournament wraps up Monday with 36 holes of play.
