MU Baseball Team Hangs Flag

Sept. 25, 2001

While it took approximately 25 hours to create, its image is priceless.

The University of Missouri hung a flag (a plywood one) behind the Tigers' bullpen at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field to honor the victims and rescue workers of the tragedy which happened on Sept. 11. The flag measure 12 feet high and 24 feet wide.

"It's a daily reminder to our players of what happened, how great our nation is and how precious life is," said MU assistant coach Evan Pratte, who put in a majority of the hours painting the flag. Pratte and other members of the baseball program hung the flag. "Our players have to pass it each day on the way to practice and eventually to our games this coming spring. It's position on the outside of the stadium also allows passersby on Stadium Road can also see it."
