Columbia, MO- The University of Missouri softball team plays host to the third annual Wheelchair Softball Demonstration and Clinic this Sunday at Stankowski Field.

On September 9th from 11:30 a.m.-3: 30 p.m., MU softball players will team up with members of wheelchair softball teams from the St. Louis Wheelchair Athletic Association and the Kansas City Wheelchair Athletics Association to demonstrate how people with disabilities are able to participate in sports and active recreation.

"This is something that our team looks forward to each year," said Jay Miller, MU head softball coach. "As athletes, we begin to take things for granted. It's amazing some of the skills the wheelchair athletes have."

Each year the softball team participates in this clinic alongside many MU and Columbia area celebrities. Participating this year will be Missouri state Representative Chuck Graham, Great Plains ADA representative Jim DeJong, several members of the local media and members of the University of Missouri staff.

"This is a great service to the community. It increases awareness for disabled athletes," Miller said. "The response from the public has grown each year as people become aware of both the event and the opportunities to provide support for these athletes."

Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. Sponsors for the softball clinic include MU Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation Extension, MU Student Recreation Services, MU Disability Services and MIZZOUREC.com.
