Cantwell Finishes Fifth In The Shot Put, Brooks Places Fifth In The 1500

EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore thrower Christian Cantwell finished the 2001 outdoor track and field season with a fifth-place showing in the shot put at the NCAA Championships here Saturday evening.

Cantwell posted a throw of 63-2.75 and earned the Tigers four points for his efforts. This is his third career All-American honor.

For the Tiger women, junior Ann Marie Brooks ran 4:19.14 in the 1500m for fifth place and her third career All-American honor. She also posted a 16:24.18 in the 5000m and placed 15th.

Seniors Michelle Moran and Eli Sommerfeldt finished 13th and 18th respectively in the heptathlon. Moran scored 5239 points and Sommerfeldt scored 4962 points.

The MU men finished 48th overall and the women placed 49th. Both Missouri teams scored four points.
