Missouri Baseball Downs Eastern Kentucky, 12-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team used a total of nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings to record a 12-2 win Sunday over Eastern Kentucky at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.

Eastern Kentucky took a 2-1 lead after five innings before Missouri rallied. It started with two runs in the sixth inning when Jon Williams drove in Ryan Stegall and Mick Weiss with a one-out double to left-center field.

The seventh-inning rally started when Luke Cassis hit a solo homer to give MU a 4-2 lead. Cassis' homer was the first of five straight MU hits. W.T. Hoover, Felipe Tetelboin and Stegall hit back-to-back-to-back singles. Stegall's single drove in Hoover for a 5-2 lead. Mick Weiss then hit the first pitch of his at-bat for a home run to right-center field to give Missouri an 8-2 lead.

The Tigers scored four times in the eighth, three runs coming on Hoover's three-run home run to left-center field.

Cassis led Missouri with three hits while Hoover, Stegall, Williams and Brian Desch each had two hits.

Missouri is now 30-21-1 this season. The Tigers have now won 30 or more games the past six seasons and 15 times in the past 17 years.

Hoover stole a base in the first inning to give Missouri 83 stolen bases on the season. The 83 stolen bases tie the school's all-time record of 83 set in 1979.

The Tigers will play Southwest Missouri State at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Price Cutter Park in Ozark, Mo. Missouri returns to Big 12 Conference action Thursday at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M.
