Softball Ends Regular Season At Home Against Kansas

Columbia, Mo. - Arch-rival Kansas will come to Columbia Sunday to play the second of a two-game series. The first game was played April 19, where the Jayhawks downed the Tigers 6-1 in Lawrence, Kan. The Tigers lead the all-time series against KU 43-37.

Sunday is also Senior Day, when Tiger seniors Karen Williams and Stephanie Falk will be honored for all their contributions to MU softball.

Mizzou is 29-26 overall and 4-11 in the Big 12 conference. The Tigers dropped two to Nebraska to open conference play, then split with Texas, Iowa State,Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. They lost one game, 6-1, to Kansas, then were swept by Texas Tech and Baylor.

On Tuesday, the Tigers took two from UMKC, 4-0 and 6-0. Mizzou hits the road Monday, traveling to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 Tournament, which will be held at Hall of Fame Stadium, May 9-12.

A look at the Jayhawks

Kansas (38-23, 9-6 Big 12) plays a home doubleheader Saturday against No. 11 Nebraska before finishing their regular season schedule against the Tigers. Last weekend, the Jayhawks were swept by Oklahoma, 2-1, and, 6-2.

KU's softball team is coached by Tracy Bunge, and assistant coaches Julie Wright and Aaron Clopton. Bunge is 165-142 in her fifth season at the helm of the Jayhawk squad.

Leading the charge for Kansas are top hitters Erin Garvey (.325) and Courtney Wright (.323), and pitcher Kara Pierce, who has recorded a 20-9 record in 34 appearances this year.

The Jayhawks opened the conference season being swept by Oklahoma State, but rallied to sweep both Texas and Texas A&M. They were swept by Texas Tech, but defeated Baylor in two games. After the initial win over Missouri, they also swept Iowa State before losing the two-game series to Oklahoma. Missouri is their final conference game in the regular season before heading into the Big 12 Tournament.
