Women's Golf Selected for NCAA Regional

April 30, 2001

Columbia, Mo. __ - The University of Missouri women's golf team received a bid today to compete in the 21-team NCAA West Regional, which will be held May 10-12 at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvalis, Ore. Oregon State University will host the competition. A minimum of eight teams and one individual will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 22-25 in Seattle, Wash. This marks the fourth straight season that Missouri, who was the No. 14 seed out of the Central Region, has received an at-large bid for regional competition.

"Our number one objective has been to reach Nationals all season," third-year Head Coach Tom Loyd said. "Receiving a bid for regional competition is a stepping stone for us and we need to play well in order to advance."

Missouri is led individually by senior Amelia Moses, who tied for the individual title at the Big 12 Championships last week, but lost in a playoff to Maria Boden of Oklahoma State.

Loyd has guided the Tigers to regional berths in each of his first three years at the helm. The Tigers are coming off a good showing at the Big 12 Championships, where they finished in fourth place after leading the tournament by three strokes going into the final round.
