Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Head Track Coach Rick McGuire announced the hiring of Matt Candrl as assistant coach today.
Candrl, a native of Owensville, Mo., will be responsible for coaching sprinting and jumping events. He was most recently head coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan. Numerous honors follow him from Baker, including 2000 NAIA Region Five and Six women's outdoor Coach-of-the-Year, and 1998 Midwest Region women's cross country Coach-of-the-Year.
Candrl has also coached in the Missouri high school ranks as head girls' coach at Fulton High School and as an assistant coach at Crawford County R-II.
Candrl holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in education from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State), where he was an all-American decathlete in 1990 and 1991. He also has a master's from Ashland University, where he was an assistant cross-country coach.
"Matt is a complement to our coaching staff here at the University of Missouri," said Head Coach Rick McGuire. "He has expertise in power and speed training, areas we want to improve," he said.
