The University of Missouri men's and women's track and field teams brought the 2000 season to a close on Saturday at the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. The lone Black and Gold athlete to compete was senior Espen Strindeberg.
Strindeberg concluded the final five events of the decathlon on Saturday to finish in 15th place overall with 6,927 points. Bevan Hart of California was the overall winner of the event with 8,002 points. The five events Strindeberg competed in were the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
When it was all said and done, the Missouri track and field team compiled a total of six top-15 performances, four All-America honors and two top times by American collegiates in the country this year. Senior Derrick Peterson led the Tigers with a second place performance in the 800m while fellow half mile standout Ashley Wysong placed third in the women's 800m run. The other two All-Americans for the Tigers were Michelle Moran in the heptathlon and Sunny Gilbert in the 800m run.

Those MU athletes competing are Christian Cantwell (shot put), Kerry Hils (steeplechase-exibition), Michelle Moran (heptathlon), Derrick Peterson (800m), Ryan Pirtle (800m) and Ashley Wysong (800m).
