Columbia, Mo.-The University of Missouri women's basketball team announces the early signing of Megan Roney, a 6-3 post player from Truman High School in Independence, Mo.
Roney was selected to the all-suburban Big Eight, the all-area and the all-metro first teams last year as a junior. She also garnered all-conference and all-district honors. She averages 13.1 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game. Roney led the state of Missouri in blocked shots last season with 85. She averages 52.3 percent from the field and 72 percent from the freethrow line.
Roney won the McCoy Medal honoring the top 50 juniors in her class (out of 500 students) at Truman. She was also selected to attend the Math/Physics Institute as one of the Kansas City metro area's top academic students.
"Megan is a very athletic and gifted young lady," MU Head Coach Cindy Stein says. "She will give us a boost inside offensively and her speed will enable her to play the full court defense that we like. Not only is she a talented athlete, but also a great student."
