Travon Bryant Will Attend the University of Missouri

Nov. 2, 2000

Columbia, Mo. - Men's Basketball Coach Quin Snyder announced today that Travon Bryant, of Long Beach, Calif., has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the University of Missouri.

Bryant, a 6-foot-9 McDonald's All-American power forward, is currently enrolled at Maine Central Institute, a prep school located in Pittsfield, Maine. Bryant originally signed with Missouri during the late signing period this May.

"We're so pleased that Travon will be a member of our family," said Quin Snyder. "He's gone through a lot in the past few months, and I think this is an unbelievable story about perseverance and determination. He wanted to be a Missouri Tiger all throughout this time, and it's very gratifying to know that he'll be with us soon. I'm happy for he and his mother, Sabra, who has been incredibly supportive. The manner in which he's handled himself and fought through all the obstacles in his way says a lot about his character. Travon is the embodiment of the type of individual that we want at Missouri," he said.

Bryant established himself as one of the nation's top prep players at David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, where he averaged 23 points and 16 rebounds per game as a senior. He was named a third-team Parade Magazine All-American, and selected Missouri over Kansas and California.

Bryant plans to finish out the fall semester at MCI, and will be eligible to join the Tiger squad after 5:30 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 20th, which coincides with the conclusion of the first semester at Mizzou. He will be able to play the remainder of the 2000-01 season, and will have three more years of eligibility after that.
